Herpes Home Remedies Outbreak

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Home remedies for genital Herpes outbreak?
I have a really bad herpes outbreak at the moment. It's not the pain that gets to me, but the itching and tingling is driving me crazy! I haven't got the money to buy the meds I would usually take until in 5 days, so I am looking for cheap home remedies that i can use to soothe the area and make the outbreak more manageable, without making things worse or getting an infection.

I have had this for a little more than a year, and this OB is almost as bad as the first one. I would appreciate any advise you might have.
I know that no home remedies will make it go away. I am simply looking for ways to soothe, not cure. I am aware that aciclovir is the only way to make it go away quicker, but as I said I don't have the money to do that. So, I am looking for ways to soothe the OB while it runs its course.

    • ANSWER:
If you soak in a bath tub with hot water and mix in epsom salt it helps a lot. Once you get out of the tub make sure you keep yourself dry..... the dryer you can keep yourself the better off you'll feel. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

  2. QUESTION:
Is there any home remedies that can help shorten a genital herpes outbreak?
Once you have an outbreak of genital herpes, is there any home remides to help heal faster then to let it heal on it's own?
If anyone want's to know........ I read that if you put a slice of lemon on the blisters as they first appear it will help dry them up. I didn't believe it but I tried it and the next morning the blisters were gone and it was starting to heal by a soft scab on it which would take a few days to get to that point of the healing process. However this was all that helped and the rest has to just run it's course but I think it probably shortened the healing process by a few days.

    • ANSWER:
Besides medication there isn't much out there naturally that will herpes out breaks faster. There are remedies to help with the pain but not so much with the healing.
Just keep them clean and dry. Keeping them dry will help dry the sores / blisters out which helps too heal them up.

  3. QUESTION:
Remedies to help the pain of genital herpes outbreak?
I'm having one my worst outbreaks yet, and my period happened to come along after I got it. I've been wearing tampons but they leak onto the sores and the stinging brings me to my knees. I don't have health insurance so I can't afford doctor visits or meds. Are there any at-home remedies to help with the pain? Like ointments or anesthetics?

    • ANSWER:
Coat your vagina with vaseline so that it will protect the blisters from urine, blood, discharge, etc.

  4. QUESTION:
What are home remedies for genital herpes?
I am 7 days into my first outbreak. I just started taking medication yesterday. It burns and stings. It also seems like they are spreading. Is this normal? How long will my outbreak last? And do you know of any home remedies u can try?

    • ANSWER:
For me the best home remedy for genital herpes is tea tree oil! when first put on, it stings like a b*itch, but trust me it works a treat. I put it on whenever i get a tingle or an itch or soreness and it seems to numb it for a few hours.
Your first outbreak will always be the worst! this is my second outbreak in 2 years and it is not as bad as the first. try salt and warm water on the sores and where cotton underwear and non tight clothing. if it burns to pee then pee in the bath or on the toilet sit facing the opposite sit, kinda like how a man would pee standing up.
seriously try the tea tree oil, i dont know if it will work on everybody, but for me it has been a god send. try not to scratch it and if u do touch the sores make sure ur wash ur hands thoroughly afterwards.

  5. QUESTION:
How long does the first herpes outbreak last?
I believe I'm having my first herpes outbreak and its extremely uncomfortable. My doctor didn't give me any medication for it because I'm awaiting the test results to see if I do in fact have herpes.

The most uncomfortable part is the one really painful sore I have on my labia and it makes it hard to sit down. How long will this outbreak last and is there anything I can do to relieve the pain (home remedies) or make the outbreak go away faster?

    • ANSWER:
Out breaks typically last between 1-3 weeks on average. You may want to go back to your doctor and get some medication. Some times doctors will give medication as a precaution. You can try taking pain killers and sit in some warm epsom salts baths for 10-20 minutes, Lysine can also help if you don't want to take medication.

  6. QUESTION:
    Home remedies for genital herpes?
My husband and i both have genital herpes together.
    This is my 3rd outbreak.
We dont have insurance anymore, so i want a list of home remedies that will hopefully work until we get our insurance again.
Ive already done a few thing that helped...
*Went pee while in the bathtub.
*Put a hot rag over the infected blister, while using the restroom.
*I dont drink carbonated drinks while having an outbreak.

    PLEASE help with some more.
    I thank you in advance.

    • ANSWER:
The only thing that really works is to have warm epsom salts bath a couple times a day and take lots of lysine. Avoid as much as possible what triggers your break outs and try to so some things to boost your immune system you should also be avoiding oral sex and intercourse while you have a break out.

  7. QUESTION:
How to stop a herpes outbreak? ?
I have just had my first extremely painful outbreak! and I do not want to go threw it again..But now i feel the itching coming back all over again..I would like to know any remedies home or store bought(not too expensive though) that will help stop blisters from forming..That was the most painful part..And it got so unbareable, so any help would be great..Please no rude answers thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Once it's in full gear there is nothing much that can stop it. If you are just in the beginning of having symptoms then L-lysine could help, or apple cider vinegar, Borasol (diluted with water then soak a wash cloth in it, apply the cloth down there for a few minutes), taking warm baths with Epsom salts (won't stop the blisters but can give you some relief), even putting hydrogen peroxide on the blisters that are all ready there (but won't prevent new ones from popping up). There is medication that you can help heal an out break. Most of the remedies I know of are meant to sooth an out break in progress, medication can help stop an out break and heal it faster.

  8. QUESTION:
any home remedies/natural remidies for genital herpes?
well.i contracted it from my husband. we usually try to be safe about this, but i suppose our luck ran out this time. my pride is hurt and im having trouble coping with the fact that i now have genital herpes. now my question is, is there a fast natural way to get rid of or help get rid of an outbreak? how can i do so? what should i eat? any creams? i really need help. please. please. please. i would just like someones input

    • ANSWER:
I'm sorry to hear about that. Lysine is a natural antiviral which can help get rid of out breaks, it may not work as fast as antiviral medication but it can help. Also Epsom salts baths help with the pain. Don't use creams on the out breaks they should be kept clean and dry to promote faster healing.
As for coping take it a day at a time for now, I know it's hard to accept but things do get better over time.

  9. QUESTION:
    Herpes outbreak question?
I've had herpes for years. Usually when I break out it's in the mucus membane area and it has a throbbing pain. This is my first outbreak on the outside, in the hairy area down there and it itches like a son of a bitch. I'm at work and I can't exactly scratch whenever I need to. Does anyone have any home remedies or ideas to share to make this maddening itch go away? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
i use gold bond medicated powder. the cooling sensation is nice.

      POWDER POWDER POWDER!

use the brown colored bottle. do not use the extra strength. it's a bit too potent...

  10. QUESTION:
Best at home genital herpes treatments? -- useless opinions are not needed.?
I just got over my first outbreak (which is known to be the worst), & I wanted to find faster and more reliable treatment for it. I ordered a natural oil treatment last time, & even though it worked, it took forever to finally heal & the bottle had already run out. Plus I smelt like a FrEaKiN InSeNcE Stick...Piece of Junk! So I really dont want to keep throwing money out on useless products, so if anyone knows a good treatment that have personally helped your outbreaks, then please send ideas on over.

Also any home remedies and natural cures are a help. When i first got it, i learned a lot from going to websites such as these and was just interested in what ya'll might have to say.

    MuChOs GrAcIas!
Stop thinking the worst. If you don't have it, then you're considered lucky. I have been doing treatments, and have it well maintained. Its not something that only permiscous people get. It's already shameful as it is, and I shouldnt be having to deal with people who have no earthly idea what they're talking about. Look up Herpes information, and you will be surprised how much your little minds have yet to learn. I always got tested and have 99% of the time practiced safe sex. So unless you don't know what you're talking about, then please do a common courtesy of letting someone who has informative information answer...

and no "dude" I don't have genital warts. BIG DIFFERENCE
Thanks to all those who are actually trying to help. I never once asked for a "Cure", i asked for a treatment... And yes i have already stacked up on all the vitamins that are recommended and all the anti-fungal creams and powders that have been recommended.

    • ANSWER:
Suppressive medication should work for you. Acyclovir, Valtrex, or Famvir are the most common meds to help suppress outbreaks. Talk to your doctor about a prescription. From what I understand, you can take it only when you have an outbreak, or you can take it daily, depending on how frequent your symptoms are. There is no clinical evidence that natural remedies work for herpes, at least as far as I know. Save your money.

  11. QUESTION:
is there a cure for herpes?
i have heard that baking soda can work as a treatment for curing cancer, is there any home remedies for herpes? not just the outbreaks i mean the actual virus? ill try anything!

  12. QUESTION:
Severe herpes outbreak or something more?
A couple days ago my mother, whose a nurse, told me that I had genital herpes. But the outbreak has been spreading no matter what we do, and it hasn't shown ANY signs of progress-- even when we've followed every home remedy in the book. I'm worried that I might not have herpes, and something much more severe.

In the beginning I had a few outbreaks, which was expected. But as the days went on, they began to spread, even when I was taking vitamins/medication to help stop it from spreading any more. Now the entrance and area around my urethra is inflamed, so much where it's very painful to walk and urinate. Nothing to help the pain is being relieved, the home remedies of the bath trick, tea bag trick, even pain killers and anti-inflammatory's. Is this a normal, first time, herpes outbreak or is this something more that should be looked at asap?

    • ANSWER:
I would get it looked at, But, FYI, none of the remedies you used will stop a herpes infection; only an anti viral will. Those usually have to be started very early on too, but since you are in a real bad way, I would get it professionally evaluated.

  13. QUESTION:
    genital herpes outbreak?
about 4 years ago I got an intense burning sensation on my genitals and it was VERY painful espiecially when going pee. I went to the doctors and the doctor examined me and told me it was herpes. After the outbreak, I never got one again until 3 years later. I went to a gynocologist and she told me it was not herpes, but a severe yeast infection and that I did not have herpes. Just last night, I got an intense burning sensation after sex. It was unbearable to urinate and just hurt incredibly bad. I figured he just cut me inside during foreplay. But this morning I woke up with a running nose and the symptoms down there have gotten worse. I am very itchy and it still hurts when I urinate. Does this sound like a break out? Could the doctors have been wrong? Also, if it is a break out, are there any home remedies? Can it go away on it's own without anti biotics? The doctor is not in until Monday, but what can I do until then?

    • ANSWER:
You can find out if you have it with just a blood test. Are you not using protection and passing this off to someone else?

  14. QUESTION:
Going Throuhg My Second Genital Herpes Outbreak - How long will it last?
I've been diagnosed with genital herpes last year around august - sept, and i was experiencing my first genital herpes outbreak.. MY GOSH it was the worst experience of my life!! extremely painful, couldn't walk, pee, sit down or sleep.. I cried every day and it lasted about 3-4 weeks. the 4th week it was completely healed.

    getting really depressed over this....

    • ANSWER:
Break outs typically last any where from 1-4 weeks depending on how sever it is.
You can try soaking in warm epsom salts baths to help relieve the symptoms but you may want to consider going going on antiviral medication and take it when you feel a break out coming on.
Don't let herpes get you down, it's just an annoying, contagious skin condition and a lot of people have it so don't feel like you're a lone either.

  15. QUESTION:
How long is the longest a herpes outbreak should last?
Okay, this is hard but I tested positive for Herpes when I was doing my prenatal testing about 6 1/2 to 7 years ago. The strangest thing is I was always the "poster child" for safe sex. I have always just had STD testing done every year with my female exams. My husband and I both had them when we started dating we both tested negative. I never slept with anyone else(I can honestly say I can count on less fingers than on one hand my lifelong partners) since getting together. To say the least I went off on him when my prenatal exam came up positive, he got mad at me swearing I had been cheating while I did the same to him. The thing is he took the test the same day mine came back and his came back negative! The thing is there is no way I could have had it and not him that we could see. The doctor said that sometimes it lies dormant, I still do not understand where we got it neither of us can figure it out(I even went back to the few ex boyfriends I had and they came back negative too!)

I have never ever had the "outbreak" and neither has he, UNTIL about 2 weeks ago. I have the most awful painful experience I could imagine, I never thought it would hurt like this if it did happen, since after 6+ years we just quit worrying. Then all of a sudden I have not just one "lesion" it seems to have spread (down there) to about 3 of them, I thought maybe the onset of my cycle caused it to spread. I have no experience with this. I have suffered the headaches, body aches, lower and upper back problems and other related symptoms-BUT this never in all this time. The doctor upped my dose of preventative medication to an active outbreak dose and said that should take care of and the symptoms will be gone in about a week. Now it is almost 2 weeks and it is awful I can not get it to go away. I have tried using several home remedies to lessen the pain but not nothing is helping and I really can not take it anymore. What is the longest anyone has had one last? Also anything that might lesson this nightmarish pain ideas would be more than wonderful.

PLEASE DO NOT BE MEAN OR HAVE SMART REMARKS, I AM BEING HONEST AND ASKING FOR REAL HELP.
To clarify I am asking what is the longest an oubreak has lasted.

    • ANSWER:
Depends how severe it is. Mine lasted for 2 weeks. I got herpes type 1 and it was genital herpes

  16. QUESTION:
    Extreme primary herpes outbreak- relief?
ive been with my bf for 7 months, knowing he had the virus the whole time. weve always been careful- condoms at the first sign of an outbreak, but 2 weeks ago, he didnt know he was having an outbreak until after exposure. on tuesday, i thought i was torn. on friday, i saw the outbreak- little open sores. its now sunday and after doing some painful examining on friday, ive counted at least 18 open blisters. the most painful ones are at the opening. i think i noticed a scab, but cant be sure. i cant walk, cant sleep. the only relief i can find is in a cooled bath. i pretty much live in the bathroom now, while my somewhat less than supportive bf occasionally comes to visit me. ive tried baby powder, but the dryness makes me feel like im splitting, and the occasional discharge is enough to make me dart (or quickly waddle) back into the tub. when im laying still, its annoyingly tingly and achey with sudden bursts of pain that feels like hot wires or hot razors. im always crying or twitching or groaning, which is irritating my bf (he doesnt understand how painful it is. his first outbreak was 12 years ago.), which is another reason why i lock myself in the bathroom. i seem to have lost all color down there- its almost completely white with what looks like some shredded dead skin from the sores hanging around. (i look like a shark attack.) i had to walk 6 blocks the other day and i cried the whole time. plan parenthood is 17 blocks away, medical center is 21. with no one to carpool me and with bikeriding out of the question, i dont think im making it to either until the pain goes away, which is a bummer because i really wanted to try the medication 'valtrex'.
so besides going to a clinic, how can i get help? home remedies? i know i should give the baths a rest but i cant, especially with all the discharge and constant/light urination. ive done a lot of research but im looking for personal experiences. about how many more days til the pain stops, based on pain starting tuesday? home remedies? i cant take much more.

    • ANSWER:
Call a taxi and go to that clinic. There are no useful home remedies for herpes.

  17. QUESTION:
    Urinary Tract Infection Home Remedies!!?
I just got a uti yesterday i think from having my period.. herpes outbreak.. and yeast infection all at the same time =/ its extreamly painful and i need relief asap soo any ideas? I cant afford to go to the doctor.. is it absolutly necessary for me to take antibiotics? What else could i do instead? thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Go to a GNC store or something like that, and ask the lady at the front for pain pills for it. I got this one and it is awesome. But it doesn't make it go away! It will take the pain away though. Then to make it go away, if you caught it early enough drink TONS of water and cranberry juice. NO COCKTAIL. Most likely you will have to go to the doctor for antibiotics,

  18. QUESTION:
    herpes help?
just wondering if anyone out there with genital herpes knows of any home remedies to help with the severity and duration of an outbreak. also does anyone know if you can use abreva down there?

    • ANSWER:
One of the sneaky things about herpes is that the severity and frequency of outbreaks tends to lessen over time. So no matter what you do, or don't do, your herpes will get better. It will never go away. But no outbreak is likely to be as bad as your first. And with each passing year, you'll likely have fewer and fewer outbreaks, of shorter and shorter duration.

As a result, you'll find lots of people telling you that this or that worked for them. But what they don't know is how much their herpes would have improved (and it would have) if they did nothing at all. The truth is that the only thing that has been proven, in controlled studies, to improve herpes symptoms is antiviral drugs.

Also, there is a product being touted that claims to eliminate herpes altogether - or at least completely eliminate outbreaks. It is a scam. They seem to be paying people on YahooAnswers to say that they've had success with their product. Nothing can cure herpes.

With that said, lots of people swear by various remedies. And as long as they aren't dangerous, or expensive, then there is no reason to try them. Just beware of outragous claims.

      Good luck.

  19. QUESTION:
    My friend's Herpes outbreaks?
My friend was recently diagnosed with herpes. As a good friend I feel bad. I know how easily it is spread and that for her unfortunately there is no cure. I know I could never relate but I could at least offer her some good advice.
I feel terrible not having any good advice for her, having to never deal with it my self.
Any one who deals with this std, Does anyone have advice for her on healing the herpes sores out break quickly?
She knows a healthy diet and lysine vitamins help a lot but does anyone have good personal home remedies I could suggest to her?
    Thank you!
She doesn't have the financial means to keep making trips in and out of the doctors...I work in a pharmacy and I know the price of anti viral meds....even with good insurance your still shelling out bucks a pop.

    • ANSWER:
The best thing would be for her to go to see a doctor. They will give her a medicine that should clear things up within a couple of days. Herpes can be quite painful and uncomfortable and vitamins, healthy diet and home remedies may offer little to no relief. Best of luck to her.

  20. QUESTION:
I have got Herpes please help me!?
Right; I basically got herpes off an ex and to be honest I didn't know how to deal with it. They have came up 2 times in the last 4 months ( this was when I got my first outbreak ) so can you give me home remedies please? And I also would like a way to inform my next lover that I have it without driving him away!

    • ANSWER:
Epsom salts baths can help sooth your symptoms. Soak in warm water with epsom salts as recommended on the package. Keep the blisters clean and dry with talcum powder (baby powder), avoid wearing tight fitting clothing and wear granny panty style cotton under wear. Over the counter aspirin or IB profin can help relieve the pain. Apply any creams with q-tips, if you have to touch a break out with your fingers try to wash your hands after doing so.
Let him know that you're a good person. You should let him know before you get intimate but if you all ready have been intimate then have a private chat and tell him asap. If he really cares about you he would want to stick around no matter what.

  21. QUESTION:
What causes one monthly mouth sores? They aren't herpes. Could they be another form of psoriasis?
I've tried all the home remedies I ever heard of but they haven't helped. I now take 1000 mg. Vit. C daily and it has lessened the severity of outbreaks but I still have them about every 28 to 30 days. They used to be so bad that I had to have them cauterized with silver nitrate. It didn't take away the sores but it killed the nerve endings so they didn't hurt any more. They usually last one to two weeks then disappear as quickly as they came.

You are in denial. It's herpes. It's always herpes.

  22. QUESTION:
    Herpes itching. Please help?
Ive had a vaginal itch for 5 months straight no discharge or odor. It's not a yeast infection. Idk what it is but it's annoying and I'm scared to go to the doctor. Would herpes last that long as an initial outbreak? And would itching be the only symptom? If so is there any home remedies to get rid of the itch?! Please help!!:(

  23. QUESTION:
If you're experienced with herpes, please look at this.?
I have Type 1 genital herpes. I've only had two outbreaks, one I'm currently dealing with and one in June, when I was first diagnosed.

Since I wasn't treated until a week after my initial outbreak, the sores spread pretty badly (I'm 16. I got it after my first time recieving oral sex from my boyfriend. Since we were both complete virgins, monogamous, and in a long term relationship, we thought we were safe. We had no idea his cold sores carried herpes. So there was a looong stage of denial). I have over a dozen sores, ranging from my anus and labia to internal ones. I know how to soothe the external ones, but the internal ones are horrific. Does anyone know any home remedies for them? Maybe a douche?

*Also, if you know nothing about herpes, don't comment on this. Sorry to be harsh, but I'm sick of people answering questions with snide comments about schools needing sex ed classes (I got a 100 in mine, by the way. Cold sores were never addressed). So don't sit there and judge me, especially when you can't possibly understand all the pain and conflictions that come with this.

Thanks again to anyone who can help.
Thanks, Myles. That astericked section was made specifically for people like you. He's not. Both his older brother get cold sores. He's gotten them since he was two years old. Would you like to explain to me how he was sexually active at two? His mother and doctor have verified this. Even if they hadn't, I fully trust him. I would never have gotten intimate with him if I didn't love and trust him. Say what you want, I believe him. He's always been wonderful to me, but he's been the biggest help since I was diagnosed too. So, kindly stop telling me about MY relationship.
Oh! Forgot to mention, I'm taking two 800mg acyclovir a day and doing epsom salt baths. I know only medication will truly speed the process, but urinating with internal sores is horrible. Even when I go in a full tub of water, it burns so intensely I scream. I just want to find something to help the internal ones. But thanks(:

    • ANSWER:
There are no effective home remedies, but your doctor can prescribe an anti-viral medication to limit the outbreak.

  24. QUESTION:
    Herpes question...?
I have just been diagnosed for genital herpes, the test came out positive. I am currently having my first outbreak and for some reason I cannot pee. I really have to go, but I feel like something is blocking it. I think it's that I have herpes inside my vagina blocking the pee from coming out. What can I do to help me pee? It really HURTS!

Any home remedies? I can't go to the doctor's cause he's closed today and my appointment is on thursday. HELP! :(

    • ANSWER:
First of all, urine comes out of your urethra, not you your vagina.

Second, you might have a sore blocking your urethra, that is entirely possible. I would say soak in the bath tub and see if that doesn't loosen it up.

  25. QUESTION:
    Genital Herpes.. help!?

I also have the flu/cold; So i've been taking Buckley's for that too. I was wondering how long this pain will last for?
And when the bumps/lumps have healed will i be okay and back to normal again?

I know there isn't a cure at the moment, but i'm not going to be like this forever.. am i?

Plus, i start Yaz birth control in a couple days..

So if you could give me any information; Or answer the questions above, that would mean alot.

    • ANSWER:
A person is considered contagious when prodromal symptoms, active sores, and healing lesions are present.

Herpes is potentially contagious when no symptoms are present. That is, a person who has genital herpes is potentially always shedding active virus.

Approximately 1 in 6 members of the general infected population is thought to shed active virus occasionally without symptoms.

Some people do not get typical blister-like sores but harbor active virus in their saliva, vaginal, or penile secretions, and can shed the virus without knowing they have herpes.

Lesions can occur deep inside the vagina where they cannot be seen or felt, but can readily transmit the virus. Unfortunately, you will always run the risk of transmitting the virus to someone else so you will not go back to "normal".

You should be very, very careful when having sex in the future. But when the virus is latent, or not present, it doesn't spread as easily.

An uninfected individual has about a 75% chance of contracting herpes during intimate contact with someone actively shedding virus.

  26. QUESTION:
Genital herpes- do I have it? horrible pain? help?
I got an outbreak on wednesday and went to the doctor thursday. i didn't know what it was but they said it looks like genital herpes so they took a swab and sent it in and i will find out in a week. After researching it, I think i do actually have it but im not 100% sure. At first they were little red bumps sorta like blisters then they broke open into sores and for a while they had a white top layer over them and if it came off then it hurt really bad. i would soak in a bath and the "goo" would come off. Peeing is extremely painful and I never want to pee again. After I pee whether it be on the toilet in the shower or in the bath, ive tried everything, it still hurts really bad. So bad that I sit there and ball for 30min after i pee waiting for the pain to ease so i can move slightly. Its the worst pain i have ever been in. I know that they say to drink more water to dilute the urine but i dont want to because then i will have to pee more often and im scared to. I hold it as long as i can. I recently got my wisdom teeth removed and was put on vicodin and IBU, so I started taking those to ease this pain and it works pretty good but not like i want it to. I know i have read about home remedies for the pain but im scared to try them in fear of it hurting more and im not 100% sure that i actually have genital herpes. Ive never been in this much pain before in my life. Will it be worse the next time? How can i tell if there will be an outbreak?
I had a boyfriend 6 months ago that i was with for 2 and a half years and we did everything sexual all the way up to sex. He said he had only had oral sex with one girl before me and that's it (Note* It has been said he has cheated on me and im unaware if he had sex before i had sex with him, he said i was his first but i found out things that make it very possible he had sex before me). I had a small possible outbreak (looked the same as my outbreak now only smaller and less painful) when i was with him but it wasn't diagnosed as genital herpes, they just gave me some antibiotics and eventually it went away. I now have a different boyfriend who i have been with for 2 months. We have had oral sex once and he has touched me twice all within the first month. Im 99% sure i didn't get it from him, he didn't have any cold sores and hasn't been sexually active for 3 years before me and never has had a problem "down there". He touched me the other day while i had an outbreak and i didn't know i had it because i hadn't noticed until the next day. What are the chances of him getting it by only touching me? And whats the possibility that he gave it to me instead of my previous boyfriend even though i might have had a mild outbreak with my previous boyfriend?

Sorry its so long, its all new to me and i need to know what happens to other people and how to help me and what i am to expect.
    Thanks

  27. QUESTION:
    worst case of herpes ever....help!?
I am a 24 year old male and have had herpes for about 2 years. I get sores on my lips and genitals. Since my first outbreak things have gotten progressively worse. Over the past year I have had almost 25 outbreaks. The longest I have gone without a cold sore is about 1 week. As you can tell this is very depressing and is ruining my life. I have been to the doctor quite a bit and there is just nothing they can do. We have tried Valaciclovir once a day then twice a day then switched to Famvir once a day, now I'm up to 3 times a day. I take 2,000mg of Lysine and 1,000mg of vit C every day. I use zovirax and abreva on my lips constantly. I eat healthy and drink lots of water. Have tried plenty of home remedies as well like green tea bags, garlic, ice, tee tree oil, etc.

I would really like to experience one month of my life without some hideous lesion on my face or anywhere else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  28. QUESTION:
    Treating Genital Herpes?
So I dont know how long ive had it, I had an outbreak like a year ago, and havnt had sex for like 7 months and kind of forgot about it, about last week or so I had a couple partners on a drunken night, and now I have an outbreak again. Ive read up on so many websites about how to treat it over the counter. I dont have insurance or a doctor, and everyone says "get it treated so you dont spread it to others......but you need money or your Skrewed. go to a doctor and see a pharmasist" and humiliate yourself, it kinda makes me upset that I cant just go to a pharmasist and say "Can I buy some Acyclovir?"
I dont need to get it looked at to know, im positive ...unfortunitally
So im refraining from any sex or masturbating, does anyone know of home remedies? Or what some of my options are

Ive heard alot about Tea Tree oil some sites say its good, some sites say its BS, i was hoping to get someones personal expierence

    • ANSWER:
If you do not have insurance and cannot afford a doctor, go to Planned Parenthood, a free clinic, OR the local STD clinic in your hometown (find them listed under the "Health Department" in the blue pages of your phone book).

There is NO excuse not to get accurately tested and diagnosed by one of these free/reduced cost clincis. For starters, you do not know which TYPE of the virus you have--HSV-1 (oral herpes, which can be transmitted to the genitals via oral sex), or HSV-2 (genital herpes). There is a difference in what kind of outbreaks you can expect based on the type.

As far as treatment, generic acyclovir is available at most Walmarts/Kmarts/Walgreens, etc., for a month. NO EXCUSE not to take antiviral treatment, either.

IF you are engaging in sex without protecting your partners, you are being extremely sexually irresponsible and immature. If you are going to play, then you need to know how to protect yourself AND others from becoming infected with other STDs as well.

The Westover Heights Herpes Handbook (see source) is NOT spam, is free, and can help you educate yourself on the topic, including testing and how to protect partners down the road.

The last source is for treatments many have used for genital herpes. Some work, some don't, you just have to experiment to see what is best for you.

WHATEVER you do, do not touch the sores with your fingers! Always use only a cotton pad or Q-tip--and use it for individual sores then discard. This keeps you from spreading the viral load to other areas of the body.

      Hope this helps.

  29. QUESTION:
If I have had an itchy vagina for a month, and there is vagital discharge, what could that be?
I am going to the doctor, but I just want an idea before hand, so I don't get any upsetting surprises. I don't think herpes is a possibility, first of all cause I think a herpes outbreak would not occur this long or be this uncomfortable and none of my partners I believe had that. I thought it could be a yeast infection, but would that last that long? I did not use any medication, but I did put some plain yogurt on it, as I read that was a home remedy, could that be the cause? Its itchey on the hole and the sorounding area, and feels dry and scaley, like herpes I imagian, but I don't see any visible bumps when I look at it. That is not a sign of pregnacy is it? I did have my period last month and have not had sexual intercourse since then, as I don't have any partners at the present time, so I assume pregnacy is not possibly? I am almost due for my period, but did not get it yet this month, should I rule that out?

    • ANSWER:
You may have an infection of some kind. See your doctor to find out how to deal with it.

  30. QUESTION:
How bad do your "outbreaks" hurt you?
Since as I have said almost 7 years since being diagnosed with Herpes this is the first real outbreak I have had. I never expected this kind of pain and the severity of it! I have taken strong medication that should at least take an edge off this but nothing is helping and have tried a few of the home remedies to put on it with no relief. So I want to know from someone who has actually experienced this how bad did it actually HURT you? Did anything help?
I HAVE went to the doctor but can not afford a return visit right now. He upped my medication from preventative dosage to outbreak dosage. Has not helped that I have seen but I have never went though this so I need to know from someone who has, my doctor can tell me but it is not from real experience.

    • ANSWER:
I only had two sever break outs when I first contracted herpes about 4 years ago. They are not too bad now, just some annoying itching, burning or tingling symptoms. When I notice them I take antiviral medication and that usually helps prevent a break out. They don't hurt to badly any more.
If it's genital herpes, try taking warm epsom salts baths. They can really help sooth your symptoms.
Here's some info on home remedies for you.

  31. QUESTION:
this is for those who has herpes either oral or genital?
(sorry if this is personal) but how many out breaks do you have in a single yr and what do you do for it to stay clean if you don't have the products (like naturally or home remedy)

the reason why i ask that is because i am in the last few yrs getting alot of outbreaks and really can't afford any products and otcs the dr prescribes for the inching and just the out breaks

and this yr i am getting coldsores all over my mouth usaully i get a few a yr but not all at once.....

    can you help

    thanks ahead of time
midnight vignisil is cheaper is cheapter then that. also that cutting to high hoping for something last than -10(even too high)

    • ANSWER:
I get about 6 outbreaks of hsv-1 genitally a year minimum - and the average is only supposed to be one every two years!

Since they were mild I have put up with it so far - I can't get anti-virals here in the UK easily at all so I have started to take l-lysine and zinc which are both supposed to help - they did hundreds of studies on l-lysine in the 80's and they proved it did reduce the number of outbreaks. It is an amino acid, and you can take zinc along with it. You need to take at least 1000mg of l-lysine a day to make a difference though, apparently, so I'm giving it a go.

I also started with an OB yesterday morning (when I rushed to the health shop to get the lysine) and I took a dose of valtrex the moment I started to get slight tenderness, way before the blisters appeared, and although the outbreak was at the point where the blisters would have come up within an hour or so, and there was already a lump, it went down and seems to have gone, apart from the nerve soreness. So I'm thinking maybe just episodic doses of valtrex are worth a try if you take them soon enough - I can't afford anything else. If you're only taking valtrex a couple of tabs at the first symptom of each outbreak, and that helps, the outlay for a pack may be quite a bit but it works out pretty cheap over time.

  32. QUESTION:
Does anyone suffer from this too?
I suffer from extreme cold sores on my mouth. I have flare ups quite often and have to take Valtrex daily as a preventative method so I don't have any outbreaks. Valtrex is prescribed for people usually with genital herpes and I have to take it because my cold sores are so bad. I can't brush my teeth properly or even eat or wash my face when I get them. It is extremely painful and very very embarrassing. I don't just get the one cold sore, I get them every other week and a bunch at a time, surrounding my mouth, sometimes spread to my nose and chin area. ointment doesn't work. The valtrex does help prevent but has anyone heard of a cure yet? I hate it! I would rather have the flu year round than suffer with this! Any help, or fast home remedies for treating them if I do have an outbreak?

    • ANSWER:
Lysine, which is an amino acid present in turkey, tuna, beef and parsley helps prevent cold sores. It is available in tablet form from pharmacies and health food stores.

Arginine, another amino acid tends to cause cold sores. It is found in cottage cheese, some nuts and broccoli.

A good site to check on which foods help prevent cold sores is :

      www.herpes.com/Nutrition.shtml

Did you also know that unnecessary stress and being out in the sun for prolonged periods can bring on a cold sore ?! Not getting enough sleep/especially staying up late can bring on a cold sore too.

  33. QUESTION:
    Vagina Acne on inner lips/opening?
This is not another case of mistaken identity. I had blood work done to confirm that I am negative for vaginal herpes simplex II.

I get sporatic pimple outbreaks on the inner lips and near my vaginal opening. When I went to the ob-gyn and asked about them, his response was "Sometimes these things happen." I didn't have any pimples for him to examine because they had healed before my appointment so hearing such a nonchalant answer was really disheartening.

Do any of you ladies experience pimples on your inner lips and/or near the vaginal opening? They do not itch or burn unless I touch them, which I often do when I wipe after using the bathroom. They don't hurt when I cleanse myself in the shower unless I rub the area too hard (which is how and when I discover their existence) or examine them by stretching the skin a bit to get a better look (if you get what I mean, I'm not very flexible).

They do not look like herpes blisters. They are a few shades darker if not the same shade of pink/red as my vaginal skin. Some look like they have blood at the surface but not pus. They feel smooth, not blistered, and feel like there are small cysts/pebbles under the skin. They take forever to go away.

I've read questions/answers regarding this but none of them clarify where the pimples are exactly. I have read articles about folliculitis and acne but there's no hair where I'm getting the pimples. Mine are only on the smaller fleshy inner lips and near my vaginal opening. Some are tiny and some are as large in diameter as a pencil eraser.

Sorry if TMI but I figure every detail helps: I shower twice a day - after my workout and when I get home from work - so it can't be from poor hygiene. I don't use tampons, ever. I'm not currently sexually active so it can't be a condom/lube allergy. I don't use toys. The last time I had sex was three months ago, would something (STD) really take that long to appear?

Thanks in advance for all ref's and remedies!
